Scrub typhus cases on rise in Odisha’s Sundargarh; 7 new infections detected in single day

Sundargarh: Amid cases of scrub typhus surging these days in Sundargarh, as many as seven persons have tested positive for the infection in a single day. With this, the total number of infected in the district reached 200, a health official said today.

Thirty-seven antibody samples were tested and reports of seven of them showed positive.

It is pertinent to mention, as many as 11 persons previously tested positive on Sunday, three tested positive on Monday and 10 on Tuesday. A maximum of 30 persons in Sundargarh had tested positive for scrub typhus on September 14 and seven persons on September 15.

A patient suffering from the disease earlier died on August 23. He was identified as Sahadev Teli, who belonged to Tudalaga village of Badagaon in the district. Sahadev was also suffering from a few other diseases, Sundargarh CDMO in charge Dr. Kanhucharan Nayak had said.

All other scrub typhus patients here are being provided with proper medical treatment and their health conditions are stable now. Residents are being made aware through Asha and Anganwadi workers.

Ample of tests are being conducted and medical treatments are given, the CDMO had added.
