Search ops ends in roof collapse case in Odisha’s Balasore

Search and rescue operation in the industrial estate under-construction building roof collapse case here has ended, announced Manmath Pani, ADM Balasore late this evening.

Apart from the six persons rescued earlier no one else was found from under the debris, he added.

“Search operation is complete. No one else is under the concrete,” informed Pani.

The district administration said a fact-finding team will be constituted to conduct a probe into the accident while adding that police will lodge an FIR against National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC)-the contractor who had undertaken construction of the hostel building of CIPET.

“A fact finding team will be formed to the probe the incident. Police will register an FIR against NBCC. After probe findings are available, action will be taken against those responsible for the incident,” said Pani.

It may be mentioned here that six persons were seriously injured when the roof of an under-construction building of CIPET collapsed at the industrial estate here today at around 1.30 PM. The mishap occurred when the scaffolding of the second-floor roof of the building which was being cast caved in.

The injured, who are workers and hailed from Mayurbhanj district were immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital.

According to reports, their condition is stated to be stable.

Locals, teams from the police, fire brigade, ODRAF and NDRF were engaged in the search operation that lasted for nearly six hours.

Three excavators, two cranes, three fire engines and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to find out if anyone remained trapped under the debris.

Luckily, no one else other than the six who were rescued in the early part of the search operations were found trapped under the rubble.
