Searing heat bakes Odisha; Titlagarh, Bhawanipatna hottest at 43 deg

While the crippling heat wave conditions continue to prevail in most parts of Odisha, mercury levels crossed the 42 degree mark in nearly a dozen places today with Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna recording the highest temperature of 43 degree Celsius each.Weather

Bhubaneswar and Angul came close second with 42.7 degree each.

Temperature went past the 40 degree mark at 19 places including Baleswar (41.5), Chandbali (42.1), Cuttack (40.5),Baripada (42), Jharsuguda (41.8), Keonjhar (40), Sambalpur (42.5), Sundargarh (40.5), Hirakud (42.3), Talcher (42.5), Bolangir (42.2), Phulbani (40), Malkangiri (42), Sonepur (41.2) and Dhenkanal (42.2).

The local Met office here has predicted that the heat wave would continue for at least a week i.e. till May 2.

Meanwhile, there are reports of more heatsroke deaths in Odisha.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Mohapatra said there have been 10 complaints of heatwave deaths from across the state. He said of this, only one reported from Cuttack district is a confirmed case. The rest are under verification, he said.

The SRC informed that the Chief Secretary would review the situation on Saturday and also that all collectors have been asked to take proper measures as the Met office had forecast the heat wave would continue for a week..
