Second round test fire of surface-to-air ballistic missile Barak-8 successfully hit the target after taking off from a defence base off Odisha coast today.
According to reports, the medium range missile hit the target after rising up to around 500 meter in the air. The missile was test fired at 3.38 pm from a mobile launcher in Chandipur.
"Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) was successfully test-fired for the second time from the Integrated Test Range off Odisha Coast at 1545 hrs on Thursday and it hit the target in a different envelope at low altitude. It met the mission requirements," DRDO sources said.
Earlier in the day, the missile was successfully launched from Integrated Test Range (ITR) launch pad at Chandipur off Odisha coast this morning, sources said.
The test-firing of the missile was jointly carried out by Indian defence personnel, DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries, reports said.
For this, around 3652 residents around 2.5 km radius of the launch complex were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
