Section 144 clamped in one more Odisha town ahead of Hanuman Jayanti

Jeypore: In the wake of violence during Hanuman Jayanti in Sambalpur district, Koraput district authorities clamped section 144 in Jeypore Sub-Division area in view of possible breach of peace, law and order situation.

The restrictions will be in force between 3 pm and 9 pm from April 13 to 20 in Jeypore.

Source said that the district administration decided to enforce the prohibitory order in the backdrop of violence in Sambalpur town where some police personnel and civilians were injured yesterday.

As per the office order, public gathering of more than two persons or any effort to create public nuisance to prevent public tranquility and peace will be considered as the unlawful within the jurisdiction of Jeypore Sub-Division.

Jeypore Sub-Collector Bedabara Pradhan passed the order under section 144(1) CrPC for immediate prevention of such nuisance and safeguard of the life of general public.

The situation in Sambalpur turned critical after some miscreants pelted stones at people during a motorcycle rally taken out by Hindu group ahead of Hanuman Jayanti scheduled on April 14. At least 10 police personnel sustained injuries and many shops and vehicles were set on fire during the clash.
