Security personnel defuse landmine in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Loss of lives was averted today as security personnel defused a powerful landmine, in the nick of time, in Odisha’s Kandhamal district which was planted in a forested region.


During a joint combing operation of CRPF personnel and police, they stumbled upon a landmine weighing about 6-7 kg during a combing operation which was sealed in a metal container and placed beneath a road inside the forest in Gochhapada area. Upon discovery, the men in uniform handled it cautiously and defused it with the help of bomb disposal experts.

“The landmine was kept in an aluminium container and planted beneath the road inside the forest in Gochhapada area. The bomb disposal squad has defused the landmine,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Phulbani) Arjun Barik said.

Meanwhile, combing operation has been intensified in the area after the incident.
