Bhubaneswar: As the festive season is in the air, the Commissionerate Police will tighten the security across Bhubaneswar to avoid any untoward incident during the Dussehra celebration in the city.
As many as 31 platoons of police will be deployed for the security of the city, where the grand Durga Puja will be organised at 118 places. The entire state capital will be covered by the forces for a period of six days from October 20 to 25, informed Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi.
"12 officials in rank of Additional DCP, 23 ACPs, 41 Inspectors, 151 ASIs, 119 traffic constables, 70 APR constables, and 207 OAPF constables will be deployed in the city. Every nook and cranny of the city will be under the surveillance of CCTV," he said.
There will be stricter blocking and checking during the Durga Puja celebration along with traffic restrictions. The heavy vehicles will be restricted from plying on main roads in the city. The security will be provided to the puja pandals in 3 categories. The joint inspection of Commissionerate Police along with various departments have been completed. The Commissionerate Police has set up control rooms at six places. A toll free number has been issued if anyone asks for donations for the Durga Puja. Bhubaneswar DCP will monitor the entire security arrangement round-the-clock, the Commissioner added.
He appealed to the residents to remain alert for safety of their houses while stepping outside on the occasion of Durga Puja.
