Senior clerk in Vigilance net for accepting bribe in Odisha’s Nayagarh

Cuttack: Vigilance today arrested a Senior Clerk-cum-Cashier of Nayagarh district for allegedly accepting bribe to pass arrear bill towards construction work.

As per a release issued by the Vigilance office, Nigamananda Bhuyan, the Senior Clerk-cumCashier working at Minor Irrigation Division, Nayagarh, was caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 13,500 from contractor Jugal Kishore Parida.

Nigamananda was demanding money to release Jugal Kishore’s arrear bill amounting to Rs1,89,611 for construction of Singhapada Check Dam and Kendua Check Dam during the year-2017-18 and to process the file for release of further bill amount of Rs 14,000 towards construction of Aripada Check Dam during 2018-19, the release added.

Following a complaint filed by Jugal Kishore, the Vigilance laid a trap and seized the bribe money from his office room.

His right hand wash as well as pant pocket wash gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the release said.

Also, the Vigilance officials searched his government quarter at Nayagarh.

Nigamananda has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court, said sources.

In another incident, the Vigilance raided the flats, office and houses of Maheswar Pradhan, Divisional Manager of OFDC, Angul on charges of amassing disproportionate assets.

During the course of search and inventory, Maheswar was found in possession of assets worth Rs. 2,65,31,127 including two numbers of double-storied buildings, one single storied building, one petrol pump, three numbers of plot/land, one four wheeler, one two wheeler, deposits in different banks, gold and silver ornaments, cash nearly Rs 2 lakh and household articles.

Investigation into the disproportionate asset case is on, said the release.
