Senior IPS officer Arun Sarangi assumes additional charge of Odisha DGP

Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Arun Kumar Sarangi today assumed the additional charge of Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha.

Sarangi, a 1990-batch IPS officer, assumed the charge from outgoing DGP Sunil Bansal at the headquarters of Odisha Police in Cuttack.

Sarangi, Special Director General of Police Training and Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), was given the additional responsibility of DGP in Odisha by the state government yesterday.

Sarangi will hold the additional charge till the appointment of a regular DGP, said a notification issued by the Home Department yesterday.

“The Odisha Police has a special reputation in the state. It has achieved excellence in several fields in last few years. The state government under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is making all possible efforts for modernisation of Odisha Police. I will try my best to discharge my responsibilities as the in-charge DGP of the state,” said Sarangi.

Sarangi, a native of Balangir district, had earlier served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Khurda and Rourkela.

He had also worked as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in North-Central Range. Sarangi had a successful tenure as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Law & Order, and Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), sources said.
