Bhubaneswar: Governor Raghubar Das today appointed senior advocate Pitambar Acharya as the new Advocate General (AG) of Odisha.
The state government today issued a notification in this regard.
“The Governor of Odisha has appointed senior Orissa High Court advocate Pitambar Acharya as the Advocate General of the state with immediate effect as per Clause (1) of the Article 165 of the Constitution of India,” said a notification issued by the Law Department.
The Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha had appointed Ashok Kumar Parija as the AG in 2019. Parija resigned from the post following the defeat of BJD in the 2024 Assembly polls in the state.
Following Parija’s resignation, government advocate Jyoti Prakash Pattnaik was appointed as the in-charge AG in Odisha in June this year.
Notably, Acharya had joined the BJP in Odisha some years ago. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly elections against then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from Hinjili seat in Ganjam district.
Acharya was also acting as a spokesperson for BJP in the state.
