Senior VP of Haryana-based firm nabbed for duping private hospital in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested the Senior Vice President of a healthcare firm in Faridabad of Haryana on charges of duping a private hospital in the capital city here during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Accused Devender Gera (55) of Bafna Health Care Private Limited is being brought to Odisha on transit remand. He would be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (V), Bhubaneswar in connection with the cheating case, said a police officer.

According to police, a prominent private hospital in Bhubaneswar had placed an order with Bafna Health Care Private Limited for fabrication and installation of equipment in seven Tata Winger vehicles for utilising them as ambulances during the pandemic.

The Haryana-based healthcare firm had taken Rs 92, 60, 280 from the private hospital for this purpose against bills of Rs 70,74,930. The firm took excess payment of Rs 21,85,350 from the hospital but did not do the work on time. Moreover, the firm did not do the fabrication and installation work properly causing huge financial losses to the hospital, said the police.

The Assistant Legal Officer of the private hospital had lodged a complaint in this regard with Khandagiri police. Subsequently, the police had registered a case (No. 494, September 30, 2022) under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC and launched a probe.

The Haryana-based firm has also been booked by the Infocity police on charges of duping another private hospital of the capital city of Rs 47,49, 394, sources said.
