Sensex tanks 168 points; auto stocks plunge

Mumbai, Sep 26 :

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Friday was trading 167.60 points or 0.63 percent down as auto stocks tanked.

Selling pressure was seen in auto, consumer durables and banking sectors, while some good buying was observed in healthcare sector.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,429.30 points, was trading at 26,300.76 points (at 12.31 p.m.), down 167.60 points or 0.63 percent from the previous day’s close at 26,468.36 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 26,578.55 points and a low of 26,297.23 points in the trade so far.

The S&P auto index tanked by 211.17 points, consumer durables index dropped by 150.48 points and bankex fell by 123.21 points.

However, healthcare index gained by 122.22 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 46.05 points or 0.58 percent down at 7,865.80 points.
