Servitor accused of assisting Odisha cop to enter Srimandir suspended

Puri: Taking disciplinary action against the servitor accused of assisting a police officer to enter into Srimandir amid lockdown restrictions, Pujapanda nijog of the Jagannath Temple, Puri, has suspended him from service.

Pujapanda servitor Laxminarayan Pujapanda has been suspended from his duty for flouting the lockdown norms, informed Pujapanda Nijog’s Secretary Madhav Pujapanda.

Violating the restrictions imposed by the state government to fight COVID-19, the Pujapanda servitor had allegedly taken Badachana Police Station IIC Deepak Kumar Jena into the temple for darshan of deities. He will be placed under suspension till further order, source said.

Jena had allegedly barged into Srimandir along with his family members through the South Gate on April 19 evening despite being resisted by a havildar. Based on a complaint lodged by the havildar with Singhadwara police, Jena and his family members were detained. Later, DGP Abhay suspended him from service for his misconduct. Also, a case has been registered against the suspended police officer at the Singhadwara Police Station, Puri.
