“Since these bars did not have permission from the Excise department, they have been closed,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, yesterday.

On the other hand, dance bar association has said that they had applied for permission, but since there is a delay in getting permits police has closed down our bars.

Notably, after reports were earlier published that girls were seen dancing in the bars, police had conducted surprise raids at Hotel Deepali, Hotel Green, Ashoka and Rain-The Bar and notices were served on three of them for violating various norms including usage of bar dancers and operating two bars under one license.

The bars owners had approached the High Court which had directed them to obtain approval from Board of Revenue and Excise department after which it would hear the petition.

All dance bars here had applied for a permit from the Excise department to run the show. However, none was awarded a license to operate. Some dance bars in the city were allegedly running shows sans valid license.

Acting on reports, the Commissionerate Police late yesterday night launched a crackdown on these dance bars operating in the Laxmisagar area.

“As many as seven dance bars have been closed. The crackdown will continue and more bars will be closed today,” said Bhoi.
