Seven-day remand for Remac Realty India Ltd CMD, Director

A special CBI court in Odisha capital today granted seven-day remand of two top officials of Ponzi firm Remac Realty India Limited for interrogation.

The court allowed the CBI to take Remac Realty India Limited CMD Partha Pratim Tewari and Director Debapratim Mazumder on remand for questioning.

Earlier in the day, the duo was produced in the court amid tight security who were brought in transit remand from Darjeeling. They wee earlier arrested by Kolkata police and court had remanded them to judicial custody in Darjeeling.

The chit fund company is accused of duping investors to the tune of over Rs 150 crore across India. The dubious firm had mopped up over Rs 4 crore from Odisha and was operating in the state through two offices.

Notably, the CBI had arrested one of the directors earlier who is presently lodged in Jharpada Special Jail here.

In 2014, Capital market regulator Sebi today barred Remac Realty India Ltd and its directors from mobilising funds from investors as well as from launching any new scheme. SEBI had directed the company and its directors Partha Pratim Tewari, Arnab Roy and others not to collect money from investors for its existing schemes or launch any new scheme. It is alleged that the company continued to collect investment for its scheme despite SEBI instructions.

In December 2014, a team of CBI officials from West Bengal had conducted a raid on the offices of Remac Realty India Ltd at Baliapal and some documents were seized. Prior to that, Crime Branch had sealed the office.
