Severe Heat Wave condition to hit Odisha districts on April 18, 19; IMD issues Orange alert

Bhubaneswar: Due to prevalent Northwesterly and Westerly dry air along with high solar insolation, severe Heat Wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Odisha on April 18 and April 19, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted today.

People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during the day hours between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “Maximum temperatures observed appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly above normal at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably above normal at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, above normal at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, and at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Temperature forecast: Maximum (day) temperature is very likely to rise by 2-3°C during the next two days and no large change thereafter.

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Bargarh.

Hot and Humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2024)

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Gajapati, and Nayagarh.

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Boudh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Bargarh.
