Severe heatwave alert issued in 28 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The coastal state of Odisha may witness severe heatwave in many places, according to the latest weather bulletin.

A report issued by Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), predicts severe heat wave in as many as 28 districts of the state.

Maximum temperature forecast for five days (May 31 to June 4) predicts that Angul (Pallahara, Banarpal and Angul blocks), Balasore (Bhogarai, Balasore, Oupada and Nilgiri blocks), Bargarh (Paikamal, Sohela, Ambabhona and Bheden blocks), Bhadrak (Bhandaripokhari and Chandbali blocks), Bolangir (Gudvela, Titlagarh, Tureikela and Khaprakhol blocks), Boudh (Boudh and Kantamal blocks), Cuttack (Athagarh, Baramba, Kantapada and Nischintakoili blocks), Dhenkanal (Gandia block), Gajapati (Guma, Kasinagar and Mohana blocks), Ganjam (Aska, Bhanjanagar, Chhatrapur, Ganjam, Hinjilicut, Kukudakhandi, Polsara, Rangeilunda and Sorada blocks), Jagatsinghpur (Balikuda, Jagatsinghpur and Kujang blocks), Jajpur (Bari, Dasarathpur and Dharmasala blocks) and Jharsuguda (Laikira and Kirimira blocks) will reel under the impact of severe heatwave.

Similarly, temperature will cross the 40 degree Celsius mark and exceed 7 degrees Celsius when compared to the daily average due to severe heatwave in Kalahandi (Kalampur block), Kandhamal (Baliguda, Kotagarh and Tumudibandha blocks), Kendrapara (Kendrapara, Mahakalpada, Marsaghai and Rajkanika blocks), Keonjhar (Hatadihi, Champua and Banspal blocks), Khordha (Jatani, Bolagad, Begunia and Banapur blocks), Koraput (Pottangi, Lamptaput, Laxmipur and Boriguma blocks), Malkangiri (Kalimela and Malkangiri blocks), Mayurbhanj (Tiring, Kusumi, Bisoi, Bigatola, Baripada and Bangiriposi blocks), Nabarangpur (Paparahandi block), Nayagarh (Khandapada, Gania and Bhapur blocks), Puri (Kanas, Kakatpur, Gop, Brahmagiri and Astaranga blocks), Rayagada (Padmapur, Kashipur, Gunupur and Bissa-Cuttack blocks), Sambalpur (Dhankauda, Jamankira and Maneswar blocks), Sonepur (Biramaharajpur block) and Sundergarh (Sundergarh, Balisankara and Lephripara blocks).

Warnings have been issued for the general public to stay indoors, not venture out between 12 noon and 3 pm, avoid strenuous activities outside in the afternoon , drink sufficient water, and other liquid supplements to stay hydrated, keep animals in shade and give them plenty of water to drink.

Similarly, workers have been cautioned to avoid direct sunlight, increase length of of rest breaks if working outside, schedule strenuous jobs during cooler times of the day and drink sufficient cool water.
