Sex racket busted in Odisha capital; four arrested

Acting on a tip-off, commissionerate police today busted a sex racket running in an apartment under Khandagiri police limits in Odisha’s capital city since a month and arrested three customers and a kingpin in this connection.

Khandagiri police said the customers were identified as Sourav Kumar from Ranchi in Jharkhand, Biswajit Kumar and Sumit Kumar, both  from Bihar and Uttam Behera, the kingpin, who hails from Rourkela.

Of the four arrested, two are students of a city-based engineering college, police said, declining to name the college.

Police rescued two women, both aged around 35 years,who were allgedly forced into the flesh trade by Behera. One of them hails from Jharpada in the city while the other is a resident of Kanika Chhak in Cuttack.

Acting on reliable sources, Khandagiri police raided flat number- J/053 of the Cosmopolis Apartment located in Dumduma area under Khandagiri police limits late last night and detained four youths to ascertain the truth, said a senior police officer of Khandagiri police station.

“After a thorough interrogation of the detainees, we registered a case and arrested them. We have slapped appropriate provisions of the law against the accused,” the police officer said.

Sourav and Uttam were staying in the apartment while Biswajit and Sumit were staying in Patrapada in Khandagiri area.

Police have seized some alcohol bottles and condom packets from the room.

“We have forwarded the accused to a local court here today and have sent the women to a short stay home in the city,” said the police officer.
