Sex racket busted in Odisha capital; kingpin among four arrested

Commissionerate Police today busted a sex racket from a house near VSS Nagar daily market in Odisha’s Capital city and apprehended four persons, including the woman said to be the kingpin of the racket.

Inspector-in-charge of the Saheed Nagar police station Deepak Kumar Mishra said on receipt of reliable information, a team of police personnel conducted a raid on plot number- 50164 of Brundaban Enclave, near VSS Nagar daily market and nabbed three persons involved in sex racket.

The IIC said one Pramila Behera, who was a broker and kingpin of the racket, was procuring girls from different parts of the states and engaging them in prostitution in the house. During the raid, police rescued three women and seized one car used for ferrying them along with incriminating articles, he added.

The three customers arrested were identified as Saroj Kumar Sahoo (36) Talapatna in Dhenkanal district, Dasarathi Mohanty (55) of Balipahada in Cuttack district and A Shyam Sundar (28) of Kharagpur in West Bengal.

In this connection, a case (272/15) has been registered by the police slapping charges under sections 3,4,5,7 of Immoral Traffic Prevention (ITP) Act against the accused persons.

“A case has been registered and the customers and the kingpin were produced in a local court here today,” the IIC said, adding, the rescued women were sent to a short stay home in the city.
