Sex racket busted in Odisha; woman rescued, six held

Rayagada: The Rayagada police busted a sex racket here in the district with the arrest of six persons from a rented house in wee hours on Thursday.

The accused persons were identified as Chandan Kumar Choudhury, Amit Kumar Laya, Biren Kumar Laya, Sibaram Dakua, Dukhishyama Kar and Jagannath Naik.

They were arrested following a raid conducted at Saipriya Nagar near Sai International hotel, just two km away from Rayagada police station, on intervening night of March 13 and 14.

The police rescued a woman and seized several articles including seven mobile phones, Rs 37,440 cash, a car (Indigo CS), five packets of condom and used condoms from the room.

According to reports, a team of Rayagada police headed by IIC Nihar Ranjan Pradhan raided a rented house and found six persons with a woman engaged in prostitution inside the room. They were found in a compromising state.

During an investigation, it came to light that the accused persons procured girls from different parts of Odisha and engaged them in the sex trade in the rented house, the police said in a release.

The women were allegedly used for a specific purpose of the brothel by exploiting them in a thickly populated centrally located having close vicinity to the educational institutions.

The Rayagada police registered a case against the accused persons under sections 4,5,6,7 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.
