Shame! 55-yr-old rapes differently-abled minor in Odisha

Brahmagiri: There seems to be no end to sexual violence against women in Odisha- minors in particular. In yet another shocking and shameful incident, a differently-abled minor girl was allegedly raped by a 55-year-old man in Palanka village under Brahmagiri block of Puri district today.

While Brahmagiri police have registered a case in this regard after rescuing the 9-year-old victim, the accused identified as Dhanurdhar Palai of the same village is absconding.

“We have registered a case. The victim will be sent for medical examination tomorrow. Efforts are on to nab the accused who has absconded after the incident,” informed Brahmagiri IIC Pravat Mallick.

According to reports, while villagers of Palanka were engaged in harvesting paddy in their fields, the victim, a differently-abled motherless child was playing there.

As the child finished playing and wanted to go home, Dhanurdhar, who was present there and stayed in the village as tenant, offered to drop her at her home.

Dhanudhar instead of dropping the child at her home took her to a nearby forest and raped her.

On hearing cries of a girl, village women, who had gone to the forest to attend nature’s call rushed to the spot to find the minor girl in a critical condition with no clothes on her body.

Dhanurdhar, on seeing women approaching, had fled the spot. These village women immediately informed their male counterparts and the police about the shameful incident following which the minor was rescued by the police.
