Shansank outperforms fellow Odia Aman to reach Top 10 of Rising Star India

Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: Last night’s episode of Rising Star India was a mixed bag for Odisha, as two of its singers competed against each other to secure a spot in the Top 10 of the popular reality show aired on Colors TV.

Shasank Sekhar and Aman Biswal vied to proceed to the next level of the show, in an episode that was dedicated to Hero No.1 of Bollywood and had Govinda aka Chichi Bhaiya as a guest judge.

Shasank Sekhar

Shasank was the first performer of the day and garnered 85% of votes with ‘Main To Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha’ from the blockbuster movie Coolie No.1. Govinda praised Shasank’s performance and said that his performance reflected his love for his family.

The 27-year-old singer, later paid a tribute to Govinda, who is also his wife’s favourite actor and sang ‘Lal Dupatte Waali’ for his wife and Govinda.

Learning that Shasank hailed from Odisha capital, the Aunty No. 1 actor added, “The City of Temples is also a place of dreams because goddess Bhubaneswari blesses an actor with stage presence.”

While subsequent singers Mamta Rawat, Vishnupriya Ramesh, Afreen group and Hemant Brijwasi managed to beat Shasank’s score, 12-year-old Aman fell short of achieving the desired percentage and thus bowed out of the show.

Despite choking during his performance, this Class VII student of DAV, Kalinga Nagar, was the contestant with highest number of votes in the last episode. However, his performance of ‘Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye’ from the movie Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, garnered only 83% votes and he failed to cross Shasank’s score.

Aman Biswal

A crestfallen Shankar Mahadevan said, “It is too good a performance. He did not choke or stop anywhere this time. I do not understand why the votes stopped coming in towards the end. This boy deserves to stay on the show.

Diljit Dosanjh praised Aman’s voice quality and consoled him saying, “This is not the end of the road for you. You are so young and your journey has not even began. This was a platform, where you got noticed and was applauded. Work harder and you shall succeed.”

Rising Star India (Season 2), LIVE music reality and talent hunt show, has singers perform live with simultaneous online audience voting on VOOT app, besides the app and website of the television channel. A screen that streams live results of the voting literally rises when a participants beats the previous performance percentage, qualifying for the next round.
