Cuttack, Jul 27:
In a shocking and horrifying incident, four miscreants allegedly gang-raped a woman after looting valuables from her house in Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district late in the night on Tuesday.
As per reports a man (name withheld to protect identity) from Begunia area of Khordha district had taken a house on rent in Jhinkiria and was staying with his wife and children in it.
As per the complaint lodged by the woman with the police her husband had left the house for Cuttack to attend to an ailing relative who was admitted to a private nursing home and had stayed back with him. The woman and her children were at home.
At around 1.30 AM in the wee hours today four miscreants entered the house by breaking open the door. The miscreants at knifepoint looted the woman’s mangal sutra, anklets, three mobile phones and some amount of cash that the family had kept in their house.
“They held my daughter and son at knifepoint and threatened to kill my husband. They asked me for my ornaments and other valuables. They forcibly took me away to the river bank and raped me one after another. They beat me up. They would have killed me. Somehow I managed to give them a slip. It was dark outside and I hid behind a bush and at the break of dawn, I returned home. On my husband’s return I told him everything that has happened to me in his absence,’’ said the victim who was sobbing inconsolably with tears in her eyes.
However, the matter didn’t end here; the miscreants allegedly lifted off the woman to the river bank 1.5 km away from her home gang raped her.
“Yesterday night I was not at home. I had gone to a hospital to meet a relative. Taking advantage of the situation four miscreants had broke into our house. After forcibly taking her away to a distance of around 1.5 km from our house she has been gang raped by the four one after the other,” said the victim’s husband.
The woman today lodged a complaint with the Sadar police in this regard.
“Definitely, the police is verifying all angles. The inquiry is on and the forensic team is involved in the investigation. He is reporting about four people. It is very early to say we have just started our investigation,” said Sanjeev Arora, DCP Cuttack speaking to reporters.
