Ganjam: In a shocking incident, some stray dogs were seen eating body parts of a new-born baby near a hospital in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The incident took place near City Hospital in Berhampur this afternoon.

As per the available information, the locals first spotted while some stray dogs were feeding on the corpse of a new-born baby girl. Later, when they chased the animals ran away leaving the corpse behind.

Some people have recorded the incident on their cameras. Irked over the incident, the locals staged a protest outside the hospital.

On being informed, police personnel rushed to the spot and immediately sent the body for postmortem.

Policemen were not sure if the newborn was already dead or had died after being bitten by dogs.

The hospital administration has denied knowledge of any such incident.

Locals suspect the baby might have been abandoned by someone near the hospital because it was a girl child which was later taken away by the stary cannies.

However, a case has been registered against unknown persons under section 318 of IPC (abandoning a new-born) and investigations are on.
