Cuttack: In a shocking incident, two baby girls were abandoned by their mothers just after their birth at SCB Medical College & Hospital here in Odisha.
The two women left their newborn babies after delivery and fled from the hospital on Friday.
Currently, the two newborns are undergoing treatment in Special Care Newborn Unit (SCNU) of the SCB.
According to reports, a woman from Baxi Bazaar area in Cuttack district and another woman from Khordha district had delivered two baby girls at the hospital yesterday.
Both the mothers and their babies were stated to be in normal condition. Suddenly, two women disappeared from the hospital leaving their babies.
The incident came to fore when other expectant mothers who were admitted near the bed of two women found the newborns are sleeping on the bed without their mothers. They informed the nurse, who was in charge of the ward at that time.
The SCB Superintendent Dr Prasanna Kumar Debata and hospital manager Soumya Mohanty reached the spot and monitored the situation to take care of the newborns.
After searching for the women on premises of the hospital, the two babies were put in the SNCU.
Sources said that the SCB is bearing all the treatment expenses of the babies. The matter is being probed after verifying the CCTV footages.
