Shocking! Youth climbs atop Puri Sri Mandir, removes ‘bana’

Puri: In a shocking incident, a youth climbed atop the Sri Mandir and removed a ‘bana’ (holy flag) tied to the Nilachakra (blue wheel made of metals) here today.

The youth hails from Bhadrak district and is said to be mentally challenged.

The Singhadwar Police detained the youth for interrogation.

Sources said that youth tied his ‘gamuchha’ (cotton towel) to the Nilachakra in place of the holy flag after removing it.

The devotees spotted him while he was returning and informed the police immediately.

The police waited for hours till his return and nabbed him after he alighted from top of the shrine.

Following the incident, the devotees expressed strong resentment alleging security lapses at the centuries old Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri.
