Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi resigns from Biju Janata Dal

Bhubaneswar: In a jolt to the Biju Janata Dal amid twin polls in Odisha, Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi today resigned from the regional party.

The former minister sent a resignation letter in this regard to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

“I do hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of Biju Janata Dal with immediate effect. I thank you Sir, in providing me an opportunity to serve the state, Simulia-Khaira Assembly constituency people and the party,” he wrote in the letter.

In the 2024 elections, the BJD has nominated Subasini Sahu for the Simulia Assembly seat. This decision stunned Panigrahi and his supporters. After the announcement, Panigrahi began to stay away from party activities.

Panigrahi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2014 and 2019 from Simulia constituency as he had successfully contested the polls on BJD ticket.
