Sipijodi mango kernel deaths: Odisha Cong activists stage demo

Congress today staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office here over the death of three persons in Sipijodi and Talaparikhala villages under Kashipur block in Odisha’s Rayagada district after allegedly consuming gruel prepared from mango kernel.

Demonstrators demanded the resignation of Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak while seeking adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased. They also demanded shifting of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and the Sub Collector.

Later, a delegation led by Congress legislator from Jeypore Taraprasad Bahinipati met the Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar and submitted a memorandum to her.

In the memorandum, the delegation has cited that despite ten sanctioned posts of doctors in Kashipur block only one doctor has been posted. The memorandum said dearth of doctors

Bahinipati, former Zilla Parishad chairperson Bijay Gamang, District Congress Committee president Durga Prasad Panda participated in the demonstration.

Notably, in the last four days Ranjan Majhi (12), Narsingha Majhi (60) of Sipijodi village under Kashipur block and Majhiani Majhi of Talaparikhala village have allegedly died after consuming gruel prepared from dry mango kernel.
