Sister of Odisha fake doctor detained for grilling in fraud case

Bhubaneswar: In a fresh development in connection with the arrest of fake doctor Ramesh Chandra Swain, who is accused of duping several women of lakhs of rupees after marrying them, the Commissionerate Police (CP) today conducted raids at Ishwarpur in Kendrapada district and picked up his sister for interrogation.

A special team of the CP raided a house at Ishwarpur and later brought his sister Rashmita Beura to Bhubaneswar for interrogation. The cops will question her regarding her involvement in the fraudulent activities committed by her brother.

Meanwhile, a fresh case has been lodged against the imposter. As per the  complaint, he has defrauded a businesswoman of Rs 4 lakh in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier on February 14, the CP had arrested Ramesh from a rented house in Khandagiri area here for allegedly duping 17 women of lakhs of rupees after marrying them impersonating himself as a doctor. The arrest was made based on complaint lodged by a Delhi-based woman schoolteacher in July, 2021.

A case has been registered against him at the Mahila police station under Sections 498 (A), 419, 468, 471 and 494 of the IPC.

A father of five children, Swain had married his first wife in 1982 and second in 2002. Between 2002 and 2020, he befriended other women through matrimonial websites and married them. He used to target middle-aged women who sought companionship and acquire their money before abandoning them.
