SIT arrests 2 more persons in pre-poll violence in Odisha’s Ganjam, tally reaches 11

Khallikote: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Odisha Police today arrested two more persons for their alleged involvement in a murder that previously occurred in Srikrushnasaranpur village of Ganjam.

With this, the tally of arrests reached 11. SIT has intensified the probe into the alleged killing.

One of the arrested is Sudarshan Pahan alias Manda from Srikrushnasaranpur and the other was identified as Papu Tarai from Ramchandrapur village in the district. Both of them were mentioned as key accused persons in the FIR, Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said in a presser.

“A probe team has been interrogating several persons in connection with the murder case to gather more information. Police are keeping a strict vigil on the situation,” a senior cop of Khallikote PS said.

Worth mentioning, a supporter of the BJP was allegedly killed in a group clash with the supporters of the ruling BJD at Srikrushnasaranpur village under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam district, on May 15.

The group clash ensued between supporters of the two leading political parties over putting up posters for upcoming elections. It is said that sharp weapons were used in the clash.

Victim youth identified as Dilip Puhan sustained injuries in the clash and later succumbed.

At least eight persons belonging to both factions sustained grievous injuries in the incident and are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur.
