SIT probe into Pari murder case begins as team visits village in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Odisha Government for probing into the alleged abduction and murder of 5-year-old girl Pari in Odisha’s Nayagarh district initiated its investigation today as the team visited deceased’s village Jadupur.

The SIT led by IPS officer Arun Bothra is most likely to meet the family members of the girl and question them over the incident and visit the spot where the girl’s decomposed body packed in a sack was dumped.

Bothra held discussion with Nayagarh SP and other police officials at the Circuit House here.

On the other hand, a delegation of the Odisha unit of the BJP today met Odisha Governor’s Principal Secretary Pramod Meherda and submitted a memorandum seeking the intervention of the Governor for fair probe in the case.

The deceased girl’s father Ashok Sahoo and mother Saudamini had on November 24 attempted self-immolation outside the Odisha Legislative Assembly demanding justice for their daughter. Alleging police inaction in the case, the couple accused minister Arun Kumar Sahoo of shielding accused Babuli Nayak. They claimed that Nayak is a close aide of the Nayagarh MLA.

The child had gone missing while playing in front of her house on July 14. Later on July 23, her decomposed body was found packed in a sack behind the house near a pond. Her parents alleged that Nayak had kidnapped and murdered their daughter.

Many ABVP members today staged a protest in Bhubaneswar demanding resignation of the minister. More than 50 of them were detained by police while attempting to gherao the minister’s residence.

Similarly, Congress took out a rally and staged protest in front of Nayagarh Collector’s office demanding Arun Sahoo’s resignation.
