The state government has decided to institute fellowships at Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS) to promote doctoral level research in social sciences.

“You will be pleased to note that Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has instituted six fellowships at NCDS to encourage doctoral level research in social sciences. Besides that, a few number of students selected through UGC/NET have also opted to do their research at the Centre as it has better research infrastructure and experienced faculties to provide research guidance to the doctoral students,” said Higher Education secretary Gagan Kumar Dhal in a letter to Utkal University vice-chancellor PK Sahoo urging him to grant permission to the Centre to conduct pre-PhD Course work for the doctoral students.

Students under the Fellowship Programme and also part time researchers planning to pursue their doctoral research at NCDS have alreday been selected. “Also, you are requested to provide registration facility to all the scholars of NCDS retrospectively from the date of their joining in the Centre, so that they will not face any problem for submitting the thesis during the tenure of their fellowship,” said the letter.

The Centre has been established by the Government of Odisha under Higher Education Department in collaboration with ICSSR, New Delhi to promote development related social science research on Odisha state in particular and the country in general.
