Six new medical colleges to come up in aspirational districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as six aspirational district headquarters hospitals of Odisha are being developed into medical colleges, announced Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today.

Speaking on the sidelines of a function at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Vardhan said talks are on to take a decision on setting up two more medical colleges in the State.

He further said, “Once again, I appeal Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to implement Ayushman Bharat Yojana so that the poor people do not get deprived of quality healthcare in the state.”

Vardhan along with Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at AIIMS and dedicated the patient care facilities to the people.

Worth mentioning, Odisha government had rejected the Center’s proposal on Ayushman Bharat Yojana, saying that it is implementing the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana for the people.

In his reaction, BJD MP Amar Patnaik said Odisha government is considering a proposal to merge Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat Yojana in the State.
