Sizzling heat sweeps Odisha as 11 places cross 40 degrees Celsius

Bhubaneswar: Mercury continued to soar in several places of Odisha today as the day temperature in 11 places touched 40 degrees Celsius or above.

The Regional Meteorological Centre’s data showed Balangir and Sonepur were the hottest in the State today with maximum temperature at 43 degrees Celsius. The two places were followed by Jharsuguda at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

Other places in the State which recorded 40 degrees Celsius or above are as follows: Baripada and Titlagarh at 42 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Boudh at 41.5 degrees Celsius, Angul at 41.3 degrees Celsius, Bhawanipatna at 41 degrees Celsius and Hirakud at 40.7 degrees Celsius.

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius and 36.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Yesterday, 12 places in the State touched 40 degrees Celsius or above. Baripada was the hottest at 42.6 degrees Celsius.
