SJTA bans unauthorised sale of Mahaprasad online; police action imminent

Puri: After reports of online sale of Mahaprasad and wedding invitation to the Trinity at Srimandir here surfaced recently, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today clarified that the temple administration has not given permission to anybody for any such practices.

Through a notification, the SJTA Rituals Administrator Biswajit Biswal said reports of online sale of Mahaprasad by four to five private agencies and online invitation to Lord Jagannath have come to the notice of the temple administration. Such reports are doing the round the social media, though the temple administration had given a clarification on such unauthorised practices earlier.

“All the traditions, rituals and practices of the centuries-old shrine are under the autonomy of the temple administration. And, the SJTA has not given approval to any individual or agency to carry out such practices so far,” the notification read.

The SJTA has asked the police department to identify persons or institutions carrying out such unauthorised activities and take action against them as per law, the notification further stated.
