Slight improvement in flood situation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Reduction in water inflow into the Hirakud dam marked slight improvement in the existing flood situation in Odisha today.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena informed that the water inflow into the dam started showing a decline from 4 am today. A peak flood of 10 lakh cusec is expected at Mundali barrage in Cuttack which may continue for a day till tomorrow forenoon due to continuous very high inflow from Chhattisgarh, he said.

Meanwhile, all roads to Bari in Jajpur district have been cut off except one road from Balichandrapur. As many as 17 officers have been sent to Bari with different assignments relating to rescue operation with the district administration. Relief materials, polythene and inflated lights are also being sent to Bari, the SRC said.

On the other hand, all rivers in the state except Mahanadi were flowing below the danger level at major gauze stations this morning. Water level in Baitarani ann Brahmani river systems has receded.

Jena further informed that crop loss, house damage and other damages shall be assessed soon after improvement in the flood situation.
