Bhubaneswar: The residents of a slum in Odisha capital here today staged a road blockade seeking prompt measures to solve the prevailing water crisis in their locality.

Holding empty buckets in their hands, the residents of Bisheswar slum blocked the Acharya Vihar-Sainik School road for around two hours in the afternoon to protest against the civic authorities’ failure to address the issue of water shortage in their locality.

The agitators claimed that they have been facing shortage of water for last six days.

According to the agitators, the authorities of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) deployed a few tankers to supply water to Bishswar slum, but they did not take any prompt action to solve the crisis permanently.

They also alleged that the water supplied through tankers was not sufficient for their daily requirements.

The road blockade was lifted after the civic authorities sent an additional water tanker to the locality.

However, the slum dwellers have threatened to stage road blockade again if the BMC does not take immediate steps to address the water crisis permanently.
