Smartwatch saves motorcyclist’s life; alerts emergency SOS after detecting fall

Bhubaneswar: What a technology! An Apple smartwatch saved a motorcyclist’s life after detecting a fall and alerting emergency SOS. The incident came to fore after son of the accident victim wrote a post about the incident on social media site Facebook.

In a post shared on September 20, Gabe Burdett, a resident of Spokane in Washington described how his father’s Apple smartwatch detected the latter’s fall of his motorcycle and alerted emergency services about the accident.

Gabe said he was about to meet his father Bob Burdett for a mountain biking. However, moments before reaching him, Gabe received a text from his father’s smartwatch telling him that it ‘detected a Hard Fall’. The device also shared the location for his father.

When Gabe reached the location, his father was already taken to hospital. Few minutes after, Gabe received another text from the device sharing his father’s changed location.

“I get another update from the watch saying his location has changed with a map location of SHMC (Sacred Heart Medical Center). Dad flipped his bike at the bottom of Doomsday, hit his head and was knocked out until sometime during the ambulance ride. The watch had called 911 with his location and EMS had him scooped up and to the hospital in under a 1/2 hr. The fire department took his bike back to the station,” Gabe said in his post.

“..Dad is doing great and his scans are all clean,” he added.
