Berhampur: Panic gripped passengers of Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express near the Berhampur Railway Station today as some of them complained of smoke emerging from the bottom part of a coach.

The train stopped ahead of its halt at the station due to pulling of chain by the passengers.

Many passengers were seen deboarding the train in apprehension.

However, the emergence of smoke was not a result of any fire mishap, a Railway official said. Rather, a sack was stuck in a wheel of the train, which caused the smoke.

"The smoke was not due to any mishap but brake binding as a sack had got stuck in a wheel of a coach. We have removed the sack from the wheel and also used a fire extinguisher. The train halted for around 15-30 minutes. A thorough check will be carried out at Brahmapur station," said Basanta Kumar Satpathy, Railway officer.
