Snakebite claims two lives in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: Two persons, including a 45-year-old woman died after being neaten by venomous snakes at separate places in Sundargarh district yesterday.

Reportedly, two unnatural death cases have been registered at Kuarmunda police outpost in the district in this connection.

Sources said one Manju Minz (45) of Dumerjor Gram Panchayat was sleeping in her house last night, when a venomous snake slithered into her house and bite her. Though family members of the woman rushed her to hospital, she was declared dead by doctors there.

In a similar incident, a youth staying at his brother-in-law’s house in Tungri Tola Basti at Teliposh village under Kuarmunda block died after being beaten by a snake while slipping last night. The youth, a native of Jharkhand’s Simdega district, was working in a factory as a daily labourer.

After returning from duty, the youth had his dinner and went to sleep, This morning, when he did not respond, the family rushed him to the Kuarmunda Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead.
