Snana Jatra of Lord Jagannath begins in Puri sans devotees

Bhubaneswar:  For the first time in many years, the Lord of the Universe and His divine siblings came out of Ratna Bedi to the Snana Bedi  (bathing altar) on the premises of Srimandir for Snana Jatra (the divine bathing ritual) in the absence of devotees today. The Chaturdha Murti- Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan are seated on the Snana  Bedi ahead of the bathing ritual.

In the absence of chants of ‘Hari Bol’ and Jai Jagannath  and sounds of Ghanta (cymbals) by devotees, the deities were escorted to the Snana Bedi by servitors in Goti Pahandi. All rituals like Mangal Arpana, Pahandi, Madan Mohan Bije, Mangala Alati, Mailama, Tadapa Lagi and  Adhara Pocha were completed by by 5.30 AM.

As per the ritual, the Chaturdha Murti will be given a ceremonial bath with 108 pitchers of aromatic water on the Snana Bedi.

However, devotees across the globe are having darshan of the deities through television from their respective houses  due to the restrictions imposed by administration in view of COVID-19 pandemic. The Information and Public Relation (I & PR) Department is live telecasting the religious extravaganza.
