Software engineer Sweta suicide case: Audio of last phone call between boyfriend and the girl goes viral

Bhubaneswar: Making the things still murkier today and in a sensational twist in software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari suicide case, an audio of last phone call between the victim girl and her boyfriend Soumyajeet Mahapatra has gone viral on social media platforms.

The accused Soumyajeet is heard repeatedly using filthy language against Sweta in the purported audio, which perhaps abetted her to take the extreme step of ending her life by suicide.

The spat centred on few previous phone calls made by the girl to Soumyajeet’s parents.

In the viral audio, Soumyajeet asks Sweta to go away from his life at any cost. The accused warns her saying that he will not hesitate to start love relationship with any other girl. He wanted to get rid of the girl Sweta, the accused was heard saying in the audio. “Nehin rehna hai mujhe tere saath,” he said.

Sweta says in her reply, “I will end my life today (the intervening day) itself, because you (Soumyajeet) are misbehaving me a lot. Soumyajeet you can’t do this to me,” she lamented.

Earlier in the day, Sweta’s brother alleged that her boyfriend Soumyajeet was threatening her to make photos of their intimate moments viral, for which she took the extreme step.

“Soumyajeet had kept few photos of intimate moments between him and my sister. He was demanding money from her by threatening her to make the pics viral if she did not agree to his demands,” said Sweta’s brother.

“They met each other in 2018 while both were working in an IT major in Bhubaneswar. It was a one-sided love affair from Soumyajeet’s side for the first 7-8 months. He then threatened my sister that he would end his life if she didn’t love him. This is how the relationship came into existence. We came to know about it after one and half years,” the deceased’s brother stated.

It is pertinent to mention, Sweta’s family earlier lodged an FIR with Chandrasekharpur police, based on which a case was registered under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC.

Soumyajeet, who hails from Sambalpur district and works in a private company in the Capital City, will be quizzed by police probe team soon.

Sweta was found hanging inside her apartment in Sailashree Vihar locality here, yesterday. Police have reportedly seized a diary from the house, in which it has been mentioned that she was in a relationship with Soumyajeet.
