Berhampur, Jun 10:
Odisha police today claimed to have cracked the murder mystery of tribal leader Edungu Gamango with the arrest of his son.
According to police, the Ganjam District President of Lok Sangram Manch (LSM) was killed by his son Vishal on May 23 over a property dispute.
“The accused had come to know that his father was planning to marry another woman which would have resulted in division of property. Peeved over the fact that his share of wealth would have shrunk, he decided to eliminate his father before he could go ahead with his marriage plans,” officer in-charge of Badagada police station Jibanananda Jena said.
Vishal slit the throat of the 55-year-old with a sharp weapon at Kumarabandha village under Badagada police limits in Ganjam district while he was in sleep. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene, police said.
The prominent tribal leader’s body was found in a pool of blood on May 23 morning.
The 30-year-old was arrested from Mallijhara village under Sheragada police station limit in the district and the murder weapon was also seized, sources said.
During interrogation, the accused has confessed to have killed his father, police added.
Notably, Vishal—the only son-- was not in good terms with his father and had separated from him since last three years. He was living at his in-law’s place at Mallijhara.
