Bhubaneswar/Goa: Two days after death of actor-turned-politician Sonali Phogat, Goa Police on Thursday registered a murder case following allegations by her family.

The police have registered the case under section 302 of the IPC, sources said.

Sonali Phogat was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa on Tuesday morning. While preliminary reports suggested that the BJP leader died of cardiac arrest, her brother Rinku Dhaka alleged that she was murdered by her PA Sudhir Sangwan and his friend Sukhwinder.

In his complaint, Rinku stated that Phogat had spoken to her mother, sister and brother-in-law few hours before her death. During the conversation she had complained against staff.

"She (Sonali) said Sangwan had given her food laced with some intoxicant, raped her and made a video and was threatening to make the video viral on social media," the police complaint read.

Sangwan had threatened Sonali of destroying her acting and political careers and had seized her phone, property papers, ATM card and house keys, the complaint further read.

An investigation in connection with the case in currently underway.
