Southwest Monsoon likely to further advance, enter Odisha in next 2 to 3 days: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Conditions are quite favourable for further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into some parts of South Odisha in next two to three days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD mentioned, “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea; most parts of Karnataka; some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh; most parts of Westcentral Bay of Bengal and some more parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal. Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through 16.5°N/60°E, 16.5°N/65°E, 16°N/70°E, Ratnagiri, Solapur, Medak, Bhadrachalam, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E and Islampur. The east-west trough now runs from cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh to west Bengal across East Madhya Pradesh & Jharkhand at 0.9 km above mean sea level.”

The highest maximum temperature of 42.5°C was recorded yesterday at Boudh. The lowest minimum temperature of 22.0°C was recorded at Nabarangpur in the plains of Odisha.

Temperature Forecast: A gradual rise in Maximum (day) temperature by 2°C to 3°C at many places over the districts of Odisha during next five days.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Bolangir, and Nuapada.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Subarnapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

For Friday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.06.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 08.06.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur.

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
