Body massage is an age-old practice, followed even now in rural areas where locally available ingredients are added to the oil, to give and aromatic feel to it. Be it for therapeutic use or health benefits, people including newborns to mothers to working men, availed this super relaxing experience. Body massage has a lot of health benefits:

  • Improves blood circulation
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Boosts immune system
  • Detoxification
  • Relaxes muscles
  • Increases muscle flexibility
  • Improves breathing
  • Relieves back, neck or shoulder pain
  • Helps gain mobility for patients with paralytic attack

Besides, it also relieves stress and reduces anxiety.

Usually, the ones who gave massages were known as ‘Dai Maa’ and had magical power in their techniques. But, welcome back to the reality; there are no ‘Dai maa’s but instead urban ways of rejuvenation. Our city has slowly been becoming a hub of spa and saloons with more than 20 such outlets offering services.

People have largely been attracted to these spas and saloons. We spoke to some people who regularly go for body massages. Here’s what they had to say:

“After a long day at work, I don’t get time for myself. So, I spend my weekend away from all the fuss at a spa to relax and feel better about myself” – said Dharitri Priyadarshini, a teacher.

“I love pampering myself. It regulates blood flow better. It’s our tradition and I believe it must be followed religiously. I got the massage habit because my parents made sure that I get a good massage regularly, when I was a kid, for strong muscles and bones. With time, and urbanization, we got busy and our habits changed” -Shweta Agarwal, an architect in Bhubaneswar.

“I was in class 9 when studies made it too difficult for me to exercise. And, after school, I started my exercise regime but it was extremely painful because I started after a long gap! So, I started going for body massage twice a month. It helped a great deal!” -Raunak Panda, a student.

“I generally go to the spa to relax and feel good about myself and to rejuvenate my energies. It’s a must to give yourself this treat. Especially when you are a mother of two, like me” -Rhiti Chatterjee Bose, an editor.

Others had similar opinions on body massage and spa. Some of them also said how it helped improve their productivity in the workplace and improve their sleep. Hot stone massage, wine massage, foot reflexology massage, Ayurveda massage, Balinese massage, Thai massage, Swedish massage, Aromatherapy massage, deep tissue massage, and ear massage are some of the kind of massages provided by spa saloons in Bhubaneswar.

So, now there’s no planning for the next weekend getaway! Give your body the care it deserves.
