Special Act for Lingaraj Temple soon: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: There will be a special Act for the centuries old Lingaraj Temple like the one for Puri Jagannath Temple, informed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.

He announced it after reviewing the progress of beautification project of the Lingaraj Temple at Ekamra Kshetra in the evening.

Speaking to media, the CM expressed his gratitude to people who have handed over their land to the administration for the beautification project.

The beautification project will draw more pilgrims and tourists to Ekamra Kshetra, Patnaik said.

The special Act for Lingaraj Temple will be made on the lines of Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1954, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Ashok Panda told media.

Replying to a media question on time frame of the Act, the legislator said that it will be a lengthy process as the legislative proposal has to pass through various stages before it becomes an Act.

First, the proposal needs to be approved by the State Cabinet. After passing it in the Assembly, it will be sent to the President of India for the Act after getting approval from the Governor of Odisha, Panda said.
