Special bus to purify water in FANI-affected areas reaches Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A mobile water purification bus developed by the Council of Science and Industrial Research (CSIR) has reached Odisha to help cyclone FANI-affected people.

The 40-feet long special bus, indigenously developed by Bhavnagar-based Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) of the CSIR, houses a water purification and desalination system.

The customised bus can purify more than 40,000 litres of drinking water per day and 2000 litres per hour. The purification system can purify any kind of contaminated water including the silt laden left by the floods, the brackish water along coastal areas or high TDS water and make it potable. The bus has a RO desalination and ultra-filtration plant and consists of TFC membrane filtration that can remove viruses and bacteria as well.

The bus will cover villages which have been affected by the cyclone so that potable water can be provided to the people.
