Speeding tractor runs over youth in Odisha’s Rayagada, dies on the spot

Bissam Cuttack: A youth died on the spot today after being run over by a speeding sand-laden tractor near Paika-Dakuluguda Chhak under Muniguda police limits in Rayagada district.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Mantu Nag from Harijan Sahi of the locality.

According to a source, the tractor (registration number OD-18 H-2766) was on its way from a riverbed near Kutraguda locality to elsewhere in the district when it met with an accident. The youth was standing on the roadside and was run over by the tractor.

Tension was triggered after news of the youth’s demise spread. Hundreds of locals congregated at the spot demanding the arrest of the tractor driver and adequate compensation to the deceased’s next of kin.

On being informed by the locals, Muniguda police reached the spot and initiated a probe which is underway. Police have seized the tractor and brought it to the police station.

“Mantu was rescued and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him ‘dead’,” a local said.
