SRC alerts Collectors, officials in Coastal Odisha for low pressure rain

Bhubaneswar: In view of heavy rain under the influence of a low pressure likely to form over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal in next 48 hours, the Odisha Government today asked Collectors of all coastal districts to remain alert and make necessary arrangements to face any kind of eventuality.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) also directed all deputy directors of fisheries and coastal districts fishery officers to ensure safe return of all fishing boats and vessels to the coast by today.
The officials have been asked to contact boat and trawler owners and boat crew for their immediate return. No fishing trawlers or boats will be allowed to leave for fishing in the sea, sources said.

Besides, the SRC asked the officials concerned to visit coastal districts to oversee implementation of the SoP and above directions without fail.

Meanwhile, a discussion was held between Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and Agriculture department to ensure no crop damage during the period, said Joint Relief Commissioner Prabhat Mohapatra.

An advisory issued by the OUAT said farmers need to be cautious as there is a possibility of pest attack after rain and adequate pesticides will be given to the farmers.

The Regional MeT Centre has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts today.
